The company was founded in April 1975 under the original name Micro-Soft in Albuquerque, New Mexico, out of the need of two American students, Bill Gates and Paul Allen, to formalize the sale of the BASIC computer language interpreter: Altair BASIC, adapted by the two of them and Monte Davidoff (or which they had purchased as freeware), for what is considered the first American personal computer, the Altair 8800, from MITS, featuring the first microcomputer programming language in the history of computing.
